My Top 7 Trends of 2020…So Far.
Bottega Veneta Woven Mules
With us being just over the halfway point of 2020, I thought this was as good a time as any to talk favorite trends of the year. Sure, 2020 has been rather shitty. Yes, it’s been the longest year of our lives. However, fashion fails to disappoint. There’s literally something for everyone. Even if it’s a simple white tee and jeans. Pair it with slinky, scrappy heels, and you’ve got a hell of a night (pre-COVID-19, that is)! I’ve taken the time to gather my thoughts and list my favorite trends of the thus far. These are the items that I had on constant rotation pre-apocalypse. Here goes:
Combat Boots- This was my STAPLE of ever there was a staple. I wore my combat boots with everything! Baby doll dresses, maxie dresses, bodycon dresses, jeans, sweats. You name it, I pair it with them. I loved the juxtaposition it created with dressier pieces, the unexpected edge. Added bonus: they often double as snow boots!
Colorful Coats- Most people collect handbags, or shoes. I’ve begun to collect coats. To date, I have 38 coats in my wardrobe. From vintage, to trench coats, to puffers, I have them all. And in a rainbow of colors. Now matter what I’m wearing, I have a matching coat for it. Pure heaven. I consider them investment pieces, as I will use them forever, so my cost per wear is almost nonexistent.
Slipdress- My second collection has easily become slipdresses. I love them! They are so versatile and transitional. Throw a chunky turtleneck sweater of it in the winter with knee-high boots and you’re chic. Pair it with a blazer in spring for a more polished look. Strappy sandals in the summer, and date night it is. A wardrobe must-have for sure.
The Short Suit- I have been pining for this trend since last summer. Technically, I still don’t have one. However, I came across this beautiful vintage pant suit from Spiegal that I will be soon taking to Nordstrom’s for alterations. The pants will become shorts, and I will become street style material. A total win! Stay tuned for pics…
The Oversize Clutch- My go-to for drinks with friends, networking events, or any other time I wanted to quickly look on-trend. This style fastly blew into the stratosphere due to the Bottega Veneta situation. Until I can gather enough coins, Amazon and Shein made beautiful dupes. No one will ever know the difference.
Mules- My spring/summer staple. Mules have the ability to instantly elevate any outfit. I paired this with everything from jeans to dresses to shorts. My wishlist includes the coveted Bottega Veneta square-toe quilted heeled mules. Fingers-crossed for a great end-of-season sale…
Denim- An oldie, but goodie. I have always had a love affair with denim. There’s just nothing like a good pair of jeans. Currently on rotation are flare-leg, distressed, and recently added, shorts. Many a time, denim has served as my work week uniform. They are just like a good girlfriend, always there when you need them.
I am excited to see what Fall/Winter 2020 will bring (I mean, what else do we really have to look forward to?). Fall is my favorite season, bringing so many textures and deep colors to the palette. What are some of you favorite trends so far? What are you looking forward to this fall? Let me know in the comments.
