How to Add Minimal Pieces to Any Style

I will be the first to admit that I never thought anyone would classify my style aesthetic as minimal. So when my sister used the term to describe my style, O was floored. When did this happen? Sure, I had a few basic, neutral, staple pieces in my wardrobe. But as my overall style. Nah, son. However, once again, a nagging feeling sent me over to my closet, where I stood for quiet a while. There I was, pulling piece after muted piece from my closet. So, maybe.
But I also have a wide variety of beautifully bright garments, exotic textures, and bold patterns. This caused me to really ask myself how could I, as a self-described eclectic dresser, have shifted into this other box? What I had to realize was that this is actually a part of being eclectic- a little bit of everything.
I have a few key minimal pieces that I pair with everything. These pieces are accessible to anyone, and can also double as a foundation in your wardrobe.

3-Pack Maison Margiela Tees. T shirts are an easy way inject minimalism into your style. Stick with a clean design, no patterns, and you have one of the hardest working pieces in your wardrobe.

Balmain Black Jeans. A solid pair of black jeans can easily substitute a pair of black slacks. Bonus points for a frayed hemline or ripped knees. Another great versatile piece.

Rick Owen x Birkenstock. Nothing says minimalism than a pair of Birkenstock. Ladies, these will be your BFFs after a long night in heels. I’m holding out for the fleece-lined pair myself.

Saint Laurent Linen and Leather Tote. Take care of business in one of the most sought after bags of the season, while still remaining sleek and minimal. You’re welcome.

Celine Edge sunglasses. It’s Celine. Nuff said.

As you can now see, by allowing pieces similar to these to slip into my closet, it is easy to see how my sister would classify me as minimal. Thinking back over it, I don’t mind so much after all. There’s worse things to be call. The most important thing was that she recognized that, I have impeccable style. Until next time…
