I’m just a girl, chasing my dreams and coming for everything that’s mine.
Wardrobe Staples: A Series
Ever wonder what staples your closet needs?
As a woman of a certain age, the time has come where I have re-evaluated everything. Relationships, my spirituality, my wardrobe. Yep. My closet. As every other woman in the world does, I stand in my closet and ponder what to wear every morning. Which was a great problem to have as a self-proclaimed fashionista, until it wasn’t. One morning, prior to making breakfast during a global pandemic, but after my first coffee and Mt. Dew shot (please note: this is a no judgement zone), I decided I was officially over it. This, from the woman who owns 38 winter coats. Yes, I was over it. As I took a long hard look around my closet, my drawers, my floors, all I saw was the latest trends. From the runways to YouTube Influencers, I had copped it all. And yet here I was, not worried about quarantine, nor how I was going to teach my freshly homeschooled kids the difference between the square root and exponentials and such. Oh no. No no no. My world was crashing because I couldn’t figure out what to wear… to the dining room.
It was at this moment that I had the quintessential mid-life epiphany: Where are all of my wardrobe staples? Not a tee, tank, or jogger in sight. This couldn’t be life. How did I allow this foolishness to happen? Was I really dressing for an event everywhere I went? Good grief. This had to end.
Now, I know I’m not the only ‘haute’ girl out here with this issue. However, I did decide to turn these pseudo lemons in lemonade. The creator in me immediately kicked in, and I decided that since I had to acquire some basics for my wardrobe anyway, I would go ahead and create some great content around it. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you “Wardrobe Staples: A Series.” Because all wardrobes are not equal, and have their own individual personality and story to tell, I have broken this into a four-part style series- Minimal, Boho, Street, and Chic. I’ll release a new post every Wednesday for the month of July, and, for my visual learners, a coordinating YouTube video the following Sunday’s. Yep! Dope, huh?
In order to create a potentially buildable collection, we will move from simple to eccentric. That means we will begin this series with the Minimalist. If you’re not sure what to expect in this style house, think neutrals, muted color palettes. Sprinkle in the slightest pops of color, and the lightest dash of patterns. Voila! You have just described Meghan Markel! Intrigued? Good! Me too! Pull out your note pad. Class, and closet,is about to be in session. Yours in style…
